ONLINE THREATS: COMPUTERS 

Computers, regardless of operating system, enable children and youth to access "The World".  Unfortunately, that includes material that is inappropriate for them, be it "adult-level material" or blatant pornography. 

In the realm of pornography the subject matter has become increasingly violent and deviant.  All types of sexual activities, in any and all configurations, are now piped into the home.  

Yet, that is not the only danger children face when surfing the Internet via home computer: 

•Predators "hunt" online for victims via chat rooms, instant messaging, and gaming sites.

•One in five employers now screen applicant's online lives.

•College scholarship and admission committees employ investigators to examine applicant's private online pages on Facebook, MySpace, and more.

•Children often act without thinking, and online "jokes" and "gags" can now have serious legal and social consequences.
